Luck Life (ラックライフ)

Overview

Luck Life (ラックライフ, Rakku Raifu) is a four-piece Japanese rock band from Osaka Prefecture. The lineup is Pon (vocals, guitar, songwriting), Ikoma (guitar), Taku (bass, vocals) and Love Oishi (drums). The band made its major debut on May 11, 2016 with Lantis, and its songs have served as opening and ending themes for anime such as Bungo Stray Dogs, Food Wars!: Shokugeki no Soma and Tsurune. They were managed by Highway Star (formerly I Will) from 2013, moved to Euclid Agency on August 8, 2019, and to Hags Entertainment on July 7, 2021.

Career

Formation and indie years

The band formed in May 2005 among classmates at Osaka Prefectural Ibaraki Higashi High School, and has never changed its lineup. They originally performed as "Maxim ☆ Tomato" until March 2007. In March 2008 they held their first one-man show at Takatsuki RASPBERRY, selling out 200 tickets, and adopted the name Luck Life at that show. They released the maxi single "Sketchbook" nationwide that November. Although they sometimes introduce themselves as being from Takatsuki, none of the members is actually from that city.

In 2009 they toured 40 dates before a final show at Osaka MUSE and released the mini album "Mr." at live venues only. The mini album "IT'S MY LIFE" followed in 2010, with a release event at Osaka BIG CAT drawing about 400 people. Their first album "World is you" came out on August 24, 2011, and the second album "Kimi no Koto" in July 2012, after a 63-date tour that ended at Osaka BIGCAT. In 2013 they held a five-city one-man tour for their fifth anniversary.

Management deal and major debut

In 2014 the band signed a management contract with I Will, and the third album "my contents" was released in both a venue-only and a nationwide edition. The single "Haruka Hikari" followed in May, and the album "Tadashii Boku no Tsukurikata" in October. In April 2015 they drew 800 people to their seventh-anniversary event at Namba Hatch in Osaka. On January 23, 2016, at an event in Yokohama BAYSIS, they announced their major debut, and "Namae wo Yobu yo", the ending theme of Bungo Stray Dogs, was released on May 11, 2016 via Lantis.

Major-label era

The albums "Life is Beautiful" (March 15, 2017) and "Dear days" (August 22, 2018) were followed by the mini album "Unbreakable" (December 18, 2019). Singles include "Hajime no Ippo" (opening theme of Cheer Boys!!), "Kaze ga Fuku Machi", "Refrain" (Saiyuki RELOAD BLAST), "Bokura" (Bungo Stray Dogs: Dead Apple), "Symbol" (Food Wars!), "Naru" (Tsurune), "Lily" and "Aoiharu" (2020). A paid fan site, "Luck Life Village", opened on October 9, 2020. Digital singles followed: "Anata wo", "MUSIC STAR", "Ashita ni Nareba" and "Hug" in 2021, and "Hand" in 2022. In January 2023 Pon also began appearing on a Radio Kansai program.

Musical style

Luck Life is classified as J-rock, J-pop and anime music. Pon writes the songs, and the band built its audience through extensive nationwide touring and self-organized events.
