Hiiragi Magnetite (柊マグネタイト)
Overview
Hiiragi Magnetite is a Japanese musician, Vocaloid producer, songwriter and DJ, also known as Magnetite-P (磁鉄鉱P), Satsuma-P and Satsuma Hogwarts-P. His best-known works include "Marshall Maximizer," "Tetoris," "Realize," "Shuen Tobiko" (終焉逃避行) and "Zako" (雑魚). His artist name reportedly came about because he wanted it to sound more corporate.
Career
He was introduced to Vocaloid music around 2007 and later began composing in earnest with the Nintendo DS software KORG M01. He joined a band at school, though he did not perform much, and then bought Hatsune Miku and started making Vocaloid songs. Around 2019 he discovered Susumu Hirasawa.
He debuted under the name Hiiragi Magnetite on September 3, 2020 with "Aru Sekai Shōshitsu" (或世界消失, released in English contexts as "Worlds End"), an unusual 11-and-a-half-minute track. His second work, "Kyūyaku Hanka-gai," passed 100,000 plays on Niconico, earning Vocaloid Hall of Fame status. In December 2020, his entry "Shuen Tobiko" won the rookie category at The VOCALOID Collection 2020 Winter.
In 2021 he opened the YouTube sub-channel "Hiiragi Subnetite" and, on April 24, posted a remix of Kanaria's "KING." He also remixed works by Kaf and Mikito-P. On August 21, 2021 he released "Marshall Maximizer," featuring CeVIO AI's Kafu. The song went viral without a single release, reached 1 million plays on Niconico in November 2021 (the third Kafu song to do so), inspired many covers and arrangements, and passed 10 million YouTube views by September 2022. It is regarded as a defining Vocaloid song of 2021 and was included on Kafu's first album Symmetry (February 25, 2022). It was also the ninth best-performing song on the 2023 Niconico Vocaloid Songs Top 20 year-end chart.
In 2022 he issued singles including "Naden'na," "Viper," "Rasshaina" and "Uni." On March 7, 2023 he posted "Satsuma Hogwarts no Theme," setting personal bests on Niconico for likes and for time to reach Hall of Fame status. That year he worked with C'Na and Yukino Ito on original songs for the unit Vivid BAD SQUAD in Hatsune Miku: Colorful Stage!. "Realize," sung by Hatsune Miku, was released on August 19, 2023 alongside its in-game debut. It earned Hall of Fame status and became his first song to hit #1 on the Niconico Vocaloid Songs Top 20.
He wrote the theme song "Antenna 39" for Magical Mirai 2024 (Makuhari in August, Osaka in October). In November 2024 he released "Tetoris," built on the Russian folk song "Korobeiniki" from the game Tetris; the title puns on "Tetris" and the Synthesizer V voicebank Kasane Teto. It spread rapidly on social media, debuting at #1 on both JAPAN Heatseekers Songs and Niconico Vocaloid Songs Top 20, and entered the Billboard Japan Hot 100 at No. 71 for the week of December 23, 2024, his first chart debut, peaking at No. 35. Its music video reached 100 million YouTube views in 2026.
On February 9, 2025 he released "Zaako," featuring Kaai Yuki, with a video directed by Channel, the Korean animator known for Mesmerizer. Criticism arose, mainly overseas, over inappropriate lyrics and depictions, particularly given that Yuki's voice samples came from an elementary school student. The video was removed, the creators apologized, and a corrected re-release was announced. On March 10 the new version, "Zako," appeared with the same lyrics but with Akita Neru replacing Yuki. It hit 1 million YouTube views the day after release and topped the Niconico Vocaloid Songs Top 20, following "Realize" and "Tetoris."
Other singles include "Retry," "Perfection," "Yamete Kudasai," "Kannagi," "Kafu-ein," "Red Rose" and "Colorful." On June 25, 2025 he released his first full-length album, Kyūsekai Legacy, and holds his first solo live show, "Kyūsekai Legacy LIVE," at Daikanyama UNIT to mark the release.
Musical Style
Hiiragi cites Susumu Hirasawa as his musical root, recalling that he was "completely brainwashed" after first hearing him at karaoke. Other major influences include Yasutaka Nakata, Skrillex, wowaka, PinocchioP and NayutalieN, whom he especially admires. He also enjoys classical music and Russian folk songs, and his EDM style draws on Martin Garrix and Brooks, among others. He describes Hatsune Miku as an "antenna"-like presence and a "younger big sister." He has also announced a track whose length will match his Twitter likes at one second each, currently in production at 70,000 seconds (about 19 hours).
