Ookami Mio

Overview

Ookami Mio (大神ミオ) is a Japanese VTuber and singer affiliated with Cover Corporation's Hololive Production agency. She debuted as part of Hololive Gamers in December 2018. Alongside gaming, her streams include tarot readings, and in 2025 her album My Sparkle topped the Oricon Albums Chart and the Oricon Combined Albums Chart.

Her design is a kemonomimi wolf girl who often appears around shrines. Her birthday is 20 August and she is 160 cm tall. Character design is by Izumi Sai, Live2D modeling by rariemonn, and 3D modeling by Yatsurugi. Her fandom name is Mio-fam (ミオファ), short for Mio Family, and she is known for her cooking.

Hololive Gamers also includes Shirakami Fubuki, Nekomata Okayu and Inugami Korone; Mio was the first new member to debut after Fubuki. She is also part of several subgroups: AyaFubuMi (with Shirakami Fubuki and Nakiri Ayame), FAMS (adding Oozora Subaru) and RosaMiA (with AZKi and Aki Rosenthal). Among the Gamers, she streams relatively many non-gaming broadcasts.

Career

Debut and early years (2018-2021)

Her debut was announced on 6 December 2018, when Hololive Gamers consisted of only two members, herself and Shirakami Fubuki. She held her debut stream on 7 December. Channel memberships opened on 1 May 2019, her 3D model debuted on 16 June, and a swimsuit 3D model was unveiled on 11 September. Her channel passed 100,000 subscribers on 10 December 2019, and a new Live2D model was revealed on 30 October 2020.

On 30 July 2020, Capcom issued copyright strikes over her Ghost Trick streams, prompting Cover to take down gameplay videos by all Hololive talents streamed without permission. Cover apologized and promised to stream only games with permission, and Mio's activities were put on hold.

She announced a temporary break on 28 May 2021 due to tonsil problems and returned on 6 June.

Starting a music career (2021-2023)

In August 2021 she released her first original work, "Howling" (an EP released as birthday merchandise on 21 August), which charted at No. 21 on Billboard Japan Top Download Songs. Her first single, "Sashimio feat. Subaoka", followed on 28 August. Further singles included "Wakuwaku Everyday" (December 2021), "Yakou Tsushin" and "Sayonara wa, Mada" (December 2022), "Yoake no Mellow" (August 2023) and "Camellia" (November 2023). Her channel reached 1 million subscribers on 7 June 2022.

On 13 September 2023 she appeared in Blue Journey 1st Live "Yoake no Uta" at Tokyo Garden Theater. In November 2023, Gunma governor Ichita Yamamoto announced a collaboration with her, as she claims to come from Mount Akagi in Gunma Prefecture. It included promotional videos such as one of her meeting the governor and the prefectural mascot Gunma-chan; the Mainichi Shimbun noted the exceptional view counts as a sign of VTubers' popularity. On 7 December 2023 she released her first album, Night Walk, featuring music from Deco*27, Shota Horie and Minako Kawae, plus a song she co-wrote and co-composed.

Hiatus and return (2024)

On 28 April 2024 she canceled a planned stream because of stomach pain, and on 29 April announced a health hiatus. In May it was revealed that she had been hospitalized since the 28th, so she dropped out of the Hololive Gamers Fes and Music Verse Fes. She returned on 30 June, revealing she had acute pancreatitis, with fevers of 38-39 °C for about two weeks and abdominal pain so severe that breathing became shallow and she briefly needed an oxygen inhaler. She released the single "Shoshin Ryoko" on 21 August and appeared at ANISAMA V神 2024 on 15 December.

2025 and beyond

She released "Colorful Universe" (27 January 2025), "Dandelion" (5 May) and "Natsu Yadori" (29 June). From January 2025, AyaFubuMi performed "Ame Tokimeki Koimoyou", the opening theme of the anime Kuroiwa Medaka ni Watashi no Kawaii ga Tsuujinai. She guested at Nekomata Okayu's 2nd Live on 28 May and took part in hololive GAMERS fes. on 5-6 July at Saitama Super Arena.

Her second album, My Sparkle, was released on 20 August 2025. It is her first nationally distributed full album, themed around the journey of life and travel, with 11 tracks and released in regular and limited editions. It features music from Bocchi Boromaru, Nagi Yanagi, Teniwoha and Zaq. Selling 16,000 copies in its first week, it debuted at No. 1 on the Oricon weekly albums chart on 26 August, her first No. 1, and later topped the Combined Albums Chart. On 10 September 2025 she held her first solo concert, Our Sparkle, at Pia Arena MM with guests Shirakami Fubuki, Sakura Miko and Oozora Subaru. That year she peaked at No. 67 on the Billboard Japan Artist 100. She followed with "Inimini Maigo" (October) and "Noroshi" (December), and appeared on day 2 of hololive 7th fes. on 7 March 2026.

Musical style and streaming

Besides streaming, Mio is known as a singer who also contributes to Hololive group projects such as AyaFubuMi, RosaMiA and the Hololive Idol Project. Her solo work draws on a range of composers while including songs she co-wrote, and her second album reflects her passion for travel.

In gaming streams she is noted for reading in-game text aloud and her relaxed commentary, and has streamed Pocket Card Jockey several times. Every Monday morning she hosts AsaMio (朝ミオ), a recurring stream with personal updates and fan interaction, and she also holds tarot reading streams.
