PUPPET SUNSUN (パペットスンスン)

Overview

PUPPET SUNSUN is both the name of a Japanese character content project shared mainly on social media and the name of the creator behind it. The project belongs to CHOCOLATE CHARACTER LABEL, with the music label Echoes. Posting began in February 2019, and popularity exploded around autumn 2024 when a TikTok dance video of Sunsun and Nonnon was imitated by celebrities and influencers. In a survey of 100 high school boys and girls conducted by ING on February 10, 2025, it ranked third for "favorite character right now."

Creator and Content

The creator publishes works as though the blue puppet Sunsun were the one posting. Besides puppet-centered video, the creator also produces the manga "Puppet Sunsun Comic." Although active beyond YouTube, the creator is sometimes introduced as a YouTuber. The creator has said that an early interest in film and manga was the origin of this video and manga work.

The content centers on Sunsun, a 6-year-old blue puppet who lives in the puppet country of "Tuhoc," and consists of video works and manga. Main characters:

• Sunsun: a bread-loving blue puppet, born February 2, aged 6, whose catchphrase is "Fuwaa."
• Nonnon: a dependable, kind, snowman-like puppet and Sunsun's friend.
• Zonzon: a gray scholar puppet, Sunsun's 72-year-old grandfather.
• Tsukutsuku: a green puppet who loves inventions and tools.
• Shisho (Master): a big puppet with a white beard.
• Fanfan: a pink-furred girl puppet who dreams of becoming an idol.

Career

• February 2019: Began posting.
• August 2022: Appeared in the music video for "Tenten" by Kohei Dojima & Chiaki Mayumura.
• 2023: Published the book "PUPPET SUNSUN Fuwaatto Pouch BOOK" (Takarajimasha, February 2); appeared as navigator for the photo exhibition "Here's to you" (June); collaborated with the six Pacific League baseball teams (September); appeared in never young beach's "Rarirarian" MV (September 20) and as a guest on their "Arigato" Release Tour 2023; appeared in a Suntory GREEN DA・KA・RA web commercial (December 26).
• 2024: Collaborations with FRUIT OF THE LOOM (June) and Sushiro (November); appeared in Hump Back... rather Humbert Humbert's "Tunnel" MV (November 6).
• 2025: Collaborations with B:MING by BEAMS (April), Converse (May) and GU (October). Made an artist debut in June with the single "Toteto," released June 25. Lyrics were written by PUPPET SUNSUN, with music and arrangement by Carlos K.; Nonnon and Zonzon appear in the MV. The streaming version was also adopted as an ending theme for the Mezamashi TV short movie. From July 2, a short movie aired on Fuji TV's "Mezamashi TV" (director: Takuma Aomatsu). The project appeared on the "2025 FNS Music Festival" Night 1 on December 3 and began hosting TOKYO FM's "PUPPET SUNSUN's DJ SUNSUN" on December 6. It was also featured in Model Press Countdown Magazine vol. 11 (July) and anan (August).
• 2026: Hosted "PUPPET SUNSUN's All Night Nippon X" on Nippon Broadcasting on February 13; appeared in and sang on Shoya Kimata (JO1)'s "Puppet Land" on March 19; and launched original bread and sweets products with Seven-Eleven on May 26.

Musical Style

"Toteto" is a song with lyrics written by the creator, rooted in the world of the character content. Sunsun's established love of singing and dancing carries over into the musical activity.
