The members of BUMP OF CHICKEN were all born in 1979 and grew up in Sakura, Chiba Prefecture. Friends since kindergarten, they officially formed a band during their middle school years. In 1994, while in their third year of middle school, they performed covers of The Beatles at their school festival as their first live performance.

Indie Days

In 1999, they released their debut album 'FLAME VEIN' under the indie label High Line Records. They followed this with 'THE LIVING DEAD' in 2000, gradually establishing their distinctive musical style.
