About

Cidergirl (サイダーガール)

Overview

Cidergirl (CIDER GIRL) is a Japanese rock band formed in 2014 that made its major debut in 2017. They are signed to CIDER RECORDS (Universal Music Artists). The band is made up of Yurin (vocals, guitar), Tomo (guitar) and Fujimura (bass). Despite the name, which often leads people to assume otherwise, all members are men. All three write, compose and arrange their own music.

Career

  • May 2014: Yurin, Tomo, Fujimura and drummer Toruru formed the band, playing their first live show on July 26 at Club251 in Shimokitazawa.
  • June 2015: They released their first mini-album, Cider no Shikumi, on their own label. In November the drummer Toruru went on hiatus, and he left at the end of December.
  • Afterwards, the band worked with support drummers: komaki for live shows, manager Fukaya on recordings, and Chihiro Hosokawa from October 2018 to May 2019.
  • 2016: Their song "Dramatic" appeared on the TSUTAYA rental-exclusive compilation Tsutarock DIG Vol.5 in April, and they performed at ROCK IN JAPAN FESTIVAL on August 13.
  • July 26, 2017: Major debut on Universal J with the first single "Evergreen".
  • December 25, 2019: Appeared at FM802 ROCK FESTIVAL RADIO CRAZY.
  • July 26, 2022: Tomo went on temporary hiatus and the band continued with support members. He returned on May 27, 2024, restoring the three-piece lineup.

The "CIDER GIRL" image character

The members do not show their faces in music videos or on TV (though they do at live shows), so an image character named "CIDER GIRL" appeared in the videos. The role was played by Ruuko (2016), Natsumi Ikema (2017), Airi Sugimoto (2018), Rina Onuki (2019) and Riko (2020), and was retired in 2021.

Songs written for other artists

Members have contributed to EVEN's "Ainouta" (bass), King & Prince's "Seikatsu (kari)" from L&, Super Tokimeki Senden-bu's "Ameagari", NARLOW's "Natsu to Snowdrop", Shojo Kakumei Keikaku Tsumi Juubatsu Yunagi-ki's "Yellow Yellow", Eisei to Calathea's "Harugasumi", Shuka Saito's "Ashiato" and AKANECLUB.'s "Yuugure Shuwashuwa".

Musical style

Cidergirl is a band of self-contained songwriters. Tomo can program and play every instrument for home demos. Before the band, Yurin was a singer on Niconico, while Tomo (as Ramune / Murabito P) and Fujimura (as moff) made music with VOCALOID. Yurin's influences range from The Beatles, BUMP OF CHICKEN and hide to death metal, power metal, emo and melodic hardcore; Tomo cites Tamio Okuda and Gen Hoshino; Fujimura cites SOPHIA, ACIDMAN and Jimi Hendrix. Their work is categorized under anime, J-pop, J-rock and Japanese indie.
