Giga
Overview
Giga (born December 15, 1991) is a Japanese composer, arranger and Vocaloid producer, and a former member of the unit REOL. His best-known songs include "Ready Steady" and "Resto Joto" (劣等上等). His music often features bass music and rapping Vocaloids, and he frequently inserts a synthesized voice saying "Giga" into his tracks. Beyond Vocaloid songs, he has provided music for Reol, Ado and Yuzu, and remixes for Wada Akiko and Ninomiya Kazunari. He also runs a YouTube channel with music videos, self-covers and demos.
Career
Giga began uploading Vocaloid covers to Niconico in 2009 and started posting original songs in 2010 with "Ryusen Prism". His first original to reach one million views was "Gigantic O.T.N". With "Hibikase" in 2014, he helped pioneer Vocaloid electronic dance music. He often worked with singer-songwriter Reol and video creator Okiku, and the three self-published the albums No title+ and No title- in 2014.
In March 2016 the three formed REOL under Toy's Factory and released the album Sigma (Σ) in October. As REOL became his main focus his Vocaloid uploads dwindled, but after the group's dissolution in October 2017 he returned to Vocaloid music. In July 2018 he released "Resto Joto" as the theme for Magical Mirai's 10th anniversary of Kagamine Rin and Len, passing one million views in a month and a half.
In 2020 he and Mitchie M composed "Wah Wah World", a theme song for the mobile game Hatsune Miku: Colorful Stage!, and he composed "Ready Steady" for the in-game unit Vivid BAD SQUAD (2021). Also in 2021 he began collaborating with TeddyLoid, starting with Ado's "Odo". Their works include "KIKIKAIKAI" (Yuzu), "Let's End the World" and "Go-Getters" (Mori Calliope), "Let Me Battle" (9Lana), "ULTRA C" (Vivid BAD SQUAD), "Knock It Out!" (Amane Kanata), "POW POW" (ELSEE), "Act" (Daoko) and "Awake" (Hoshimachi Suisei). They describe their strengths as opposite: Giga writes delicate melodies and precise tracks, while TeddyLoid creates dynamic sounds across many genres.
He also arranged and composed many Reol songs, including "Hibikase", "Gekihaku", "Mirage", "Ms.CONTROL", "DDD" and "DEAD CENTER feat. LiSA", and has made official remixes of DECO*27 songs.
Musical Style
Giga writes fast, energetic music with rap and heavy bass. He is influenced by K-pop and Western music while keeping elements of Japanese song structure. According to TeddyLoid, his vocal editing sits between human and mechanical. He pays close attention to pitch shifting, sometimes adding vibrato or pitching up word endings. He first used FL Studio and later switched to Ableton Live to work with TeddyLoid. He mainly uses Kagamine Rin & Len, plus Hatsune Miku, Megurine Luka, GUMI and IA.
