Overview
Globe is a Japanese pop band formed in 1995 by the renowned producer and composer Tetsuya Komuro. The group consists of Komuro, Keiko Yamada (KEIKO), and Marc Panther. Their debut album, "globe", is one of the best-selling albums in Japanese music history, with over 4 million copies sold. In 1998, the single "Wanna Be a Dreammaker" won the Grand Prix at the 40th Japan Record Awards, a prestigious honor in the Japanese music industry. In 2002, Yoshiki from X Japan joined the band, further elevating their profile.
Career History
1995-1998: Debut and Early Success
Globe debuted in August 1995 with the single "Feel Like Dance". Following this, their 1996 single "DEPARTURES" sold over 2 million copies, becoming a major hit. Their debut album "globe" sold over 4 million copies, setting significant records in Japanese music history. By 1997, they successfully completed a four-dome tour in Japan, and in 1998, they won the Japan Record Award with "Wanna Be a Dreammaker".
1999-2002: Experimentation and New Challenges
Starting in 1999, Globe began experimenting with various genres, including trance music. In 2002, Yoshiki officially joined as a member and released the single "seize the light". That same year, the marriage of Komuro and KEIKO became a major talking point.
2003-2009: Hiatus and Return
After 2003, Globe members focused on their solo careers, which led to a temporary hiatus. However, in 2009, they officially announced their return at the a-nation festival. During this period, Globe explored various genres, expanding their musical scope.
2010-2014: Hiatus Due to KEIKO’s Health Issues
In 2011, KEIKO was hospitalized for health reasons, leading to another hiatus. However, in 2013 and 2014, they released two remix albums, maintaining their presence in the music scene.
2015-Present: 20th Anniversary and Beyond
In 2015, Globe celebrated their 20th anniversary with various projects and album releases. In 2022, they released a memorial box to commemorate their 10,000th day since debut. Recently, KEIKO has gradually resumed her activities, raising expectations for Globe’s future endeavors.
