Overview

MY FIRST STORY (abbreviated MFS, affectionately "Maifasu") is a Japanese rock band from Shibuya, Tokyo, formed in 2011. They are signed to Connected Cells and release through INTACT RECORDS. The lineup features vocalist Hiro (Hiroki Moriuchi), guitarist Teru (Teruki Nishizawa), bassist Nob (Nobuaki Katō) and drummer Kid'z (Shōhei Sasaki); guitarist Sho has been on hiatus since the end of 2015 but still contributes as a composer. Their self-titled 2012 debut album put them on major festival lineups, and the fourth album ANTITHESE (2016) reached No. 4 on the Oricon weekly album chart and led to their first Nippon Budokan show. On February 26, 2026, the band announced a break from activities as a recharging period.

Career

Formation and early days (2011–2012)

The band formed in August 2011 when Sho, Nob and Masack of fromus invited Hiro and Teru to join. The name was suggested by K, vocalist of Pay money To my Pain. They played in public for the first time in October 2011 at an event sponsored by Sanei Shobo, and in November appeared at an event run by the brand Subciety. On April 4, 2012 they released their debut album MY FIRST STORY, the first release from INTACT RECORDS; the video for lead track "Second Limit" was made by maxilla. They played SUMMER SONIC on August 19, 2012.

2013–2015

The second album The Story is My Life followed on February 6, 2013. In early 2014 the band joined Swanky Dank, Blue Encount and Air Swell for the split project Boneds. They released the singles "Black Rail" (July 2014) and "Fukyagaku Replace" (September, ending theme of the anime Nobunaga Concerto), then the third album Itsuwari Neurose on October 29, 2014, which peaked at No. 14 and includes "Someday", a tribute to K, who died in December 2012. Hiro and Masack's influenza forced postponement of several tour dates in December 2014. From August 28 to September 26, 2015 they held their first headlining tour, WE ARE NOT ALONE TOUR 2015.

Lineup changes and Budokan (2015–2016)

In October 2015 Sho announced a hiatus from live performance, and played his last pre-hiatus one-man show at TSUTAYA O-EAST on December 2. The official fan club STORYTELLER opened on January 8, 2016. On March 3 Masack left, and Kid'z, formerly of LOTH, joined; the new lineup debuted on March 10 at Shibuya O-EAST. ANTITHESE arrived in June 2016 and hit No. 4 on Oricon. After a 47-prefecture tour and Taiwan dates, they held their first Nippon Budokan concert on November 18, releasing the venue-only single "We're Just Waiting 4 You".

2017–2022

The documentary film MY FIRST STORY DOCUMENTARY FILM -Zenshin- opened in February 2017, and in July they released the mini album ALL LEAD TRACKS, every song of which had a tie-up. The tour final on December 23, 2017 was at Makuhari Messe, followed by Yokohama Arena and Saitama Super Arena. A Tokyo Dome show planned for 2021 was postponed indefinitely due to COVID-19. In July 2020 they released the lyric-free instrumental albums BGM and sleeping. In 2021 they staged STORYTELLER TOUR 2021, ending at LINE CUBE SHIBUYA, and on February 10, 2022 returned to Budokan for the first time in five years.

2023 onward

In 2023 the band toured all 47 prefectures for the first time in seven years with MY FIRST STORY -THE TWO-. The joint show VS with ONE OK ROCK, whose vocalist Taka is Hiro's older brother, took place at Tokyo Dome on November 14, and "HOME〜2023.11.14 VS at TOKYO DOME ver.〜" came out on December 31. Throughout 2023 they issued near-monthly singles, including "Tokyo Midnight", "merry-go-round", "CRAZY BEAUTIFUL NIGHT", "i don't wanna be", "Mirage", "Ashen" and "Boyfriend".

The band held MY FIRST STORY 2024 "express" in April and released the album The Crown on May 8, 2024. The HYDE collaboration "Mugen" (May 13) and "Towa -Toshie-" (May 20) were issued as a combined single on June 5; they served as the opening and ending themes of the anime Demon Slayer: Hashira Training Arc. In August 2024 Sho made a limited return during STORYTELLER TOUR 2024, and Masack did so at Zepp Haneda on September 19. The band also played festivals such as JAPAN JAM, VIVA LA ROCK and ROCK IN JAPAN FESTIVAL. Later releases include "Devil" (October 2024), "BREAK IT DOWN" (November 2024) and "You're already dead" (July 2025).

Musical style

The band is classified as J-rock, J-pop and anime music. Hiro writes the lyrics, while Nob and Sho handle composition. Frequent anime and commercial tie-ups are a notable feature of their output.
