About
SIX LOUNGE
Overview
SIX LOUNGE is a three-piece Japanese rock band signed to T.O.P.S, with Epic Records Japan as its label. Formed in Oita Prefecture in 2012, the band made its major debut in 2018 with the mini-album Yumeutsutsu (『夢うつつ』). All members are from Oita and the band still bases its activities there.
Career
Formation and indie years (2012–2017)
Yumori Yamaguchi (vocals, guitar) and Shintaro Nagamatsu (drums, backing vocals, lyrics) were classmates in the music course at Oita Prefectural Geijutsu Midorigaoka High School. Yamaguchi, who enrolled wanting to start a band, invited Nagamatsu, whom he heard playing drums in the music room, and they formed the group in 2012. They won the grand prize at the high-school band contest Oita Rock'n'Roll High School for Vol. 6 and Vol. 7, the first back-to-back win, and also took the Audience Award.
In 2015 the band sold out its one-man show "Trash" on March 21. After the original bassist left, junior Riku Iwao joined, creating the current lineup. They made their CD debut on the indie label THE NINTH APOLLO and released their first single "Merry Lou" on November 11. In 2016 they released Shinonome (『東雲』), toured about 30 dates, and appeared at COMIN'KOBE 16 and the ROOKIE A GO-GO stage of FUJI ROCK FESTIVAL '16. Shinonome won the 2017 CD Shop Award Kyushu Block Prize. In 2017 the one-man tour "SIX LOUNGE ONEMAN 'LOVE'" sold out venues including Shibuya CLUB QUATTRO.
Major debut and after (2018–2022)
In April 2018 the band released Yumeutsutsu through ZEN MUSIC and debuted on a major label. That summer they played ROCK IN JAPAN FESTIVAL, SWEET LOVE SHOWER and RISING SUN ROCK FESTIVAL, and in October they released the mini-album Venus (『ヴィーナス』). The tour "SIX LOUNGE ONEMAN TOUR 'LOVE' 2018–2019" saw a string of sell-outs, including Mynavi BLITZ Akasaka.
2023 onward
In 2023, "Rika," a track from Shinonome, was introduced on TV by singer-songwriter aiko and became a hot topic; from summer, videos using the song spread mainly on TikTok, and a re-recorded version was released digitally on August 2. The full album FANFARE followed on September 20, with a national tour from October 2023 to January 2024.
The EP All Right arrived on March 27, 2024, including "Kimi ga Mabushii kara Boku wa Hoshi ga Mienai." "Kotoba ni Sezu tomo" was used as the opening theme of the anime BLEACH: Thousand-Year Blood War – The Conflict, and "Madness" as the theme song of the FOD original drama REAL.
In July 2025 the band held its first one-man show at Hibiya Open-Air Concert Hall, and on October 1 released the EP Sansan (『燦燦』), featuring "Odoru Lion feat. Hau Ueno (TETORA)," the band's first collaboration. On March 18, 2026 they released the acoustic-leaning album My Favorite Song (『マイフェイバリットソング』), and "Sayonara Janai Hou ga Ii" became the opening theme for season 2 of the anime The King's Second Life. The full album Sakayume (『逆夢』) followed on August 26, 2026, and the band plans its first solo concert at Nippon Budokan, "Masayume," on February 13, 2027.
Musical style
The band's sound is built on rock'n'roll-based band arrangements. Early on it leaned strongly toward punk, gradually shifting toward orthodox rock. Centered on guitar/vocals, bass and drums, the trio has written original songs since their high-school days.
