This is LAST

Overview

This is LAST is a Japanese rock band formed in 2018. Their management company and label is SDR. Hailing from Kashiwa, Chiba Prefecture, the three-piece band began performing live mainly in central Tokyo. The current lineup consists of Akitsugu Kikuchi (guitar, vocals) and Terunao Kanomata (drums).

Career

The band was formed in May 2018 by the brothers Yoho and Ryusei Kikuchi together with Kanomata, who had been their senior in high school. After repeated lineup changes, the band settled into its current form. The name reflects the idea of making this "the last band, putting everything they are and their entire musical lives into it."

In August 2022, the band moved to SDR, a group company of Stardust Promotion. On November 23, 2023, bassist and backing vocalist Ryusei Kikuchi left the band, leaving the current two-member lineup.

On the release side, the band put out the single "Oyasumi" (おやすみ) on May 31, 2023, followed on July 26 by "Balance (retake)" and "Renai Bonjin wa Odoranai (retake)", on August 2 by "Yoso-ro" (ヨーソロー), and on November 29 by "Kotoba ni Shite" (言葉にして). In 2024 they released "Any" in January and "Outfocus" (アウトフォーカス) in March, then the album "HOME" on March 27. Further singles followed: "Super Kiseiman" in June, "Scoop!" in September and "Strawberry" in November. In 2025 they continued with "AM" in March, "Hi no Hana" in April, "Numa Koete Mizuumi" in July and "Shapeshifter" on October 8.

Musical Style

The band originally leaned toward metalcore, hardcore and punk. Their current direction came about after vocalist Yoho was cheated on and heartbroken by his girlfriend at the time. Categorized as J-pop, their sound is built on a rock band foundation.
